Welcome to Improvers Whitewater!

This intensive course is designed to transfer all your flat water skills and experience to moving water and to boost your whitewater confidence. Over the weekend you’ll learn the foundation whitewater skills of breaking in and out, ferry gliding and river reading. But, it’s not all about learning it’s also about fun and you should get one or two memorable river days out of it as well and finish the course ready and raring for some more whitewater action!

Personal equipment (including kayak) is available to use (free of charge) subject to availability. Please contact the Centre for more details.

Improvers Whitewater (kayak)
If you have a bit of whitewater experience and want to improve your skills and confidence then this is the course for you! Over the duration of this extended course you’ll master the foundation skills of breaking in and out, ferry gliding and river reading, plus you’ll learn basic whitewater safety and rescue techniques. Basically everything you need to become an effective & safe whitewater paddler! But it’s not all about learning it’s also about fun, and you should get plenty of memorable river trips out of it as well. By the end of the course you might even be ready for a trip down the lower Tryweryn – 6km of grade 2/3 whitewater!

Intermediate Whitewater (kayak)
The step from grade 2/3 to grade 3/4 can be an intimidating one but this two-day course is designed to make it a whole lot easier. Aimed at paddlers who want to move up a grade, or who want to polish their river running performance, this course is designed to improve skills and increase confidence. Over the two days you’ll move from the easier sections of the Tryweryn to the classics such as the Graveyard and Ski Slope; moving to the more technical sections as your skills and confidence increase. By the end of the course you should have the skills and confidence to tackle all sections of the Tryweryn!
